Work Details
茶の湯文化が人々の暮らしに根付く町、岡山県倉敷市玉島。この町の茶の湯文化は200年以上の歴史があり、最盛期には町全体で400もの茶室があったといわれ、現在でも40ほどの茶室が残っているのが確認されている。限られたエリアにこれだけの茶室が現存する例は全国的に見ても稀である。
そんな玉島で、岡山四大茶会のひとつである良寛茶会が行われる円通寺をはじめ、町に残る茶室のいくつかを活用した展覧会「茶室と現代美術」が開催された。
この作品は玉島高校茶道部の生徒たちの協力を得て行ったプロジェクト。茶道部で普段使用している茶道具を、生徒たちにスマートフォンアプリで3Dスキャンをしてもらい、そのデータから3Dプリンターで茶道具をプリントアウトする。実際にその3D茶道具を使った茶会を開き、亭主側と客側の2方向に焦点を合わせてスマートフォンでタイムラプス動画を撮影、編集、映像作品を制作。3D茶道具と映像作品を、茶会をイメージした形で展示、公開した。

I have been mainly creating and presenting three-dimensional works and installations.
I make artworks that cannot be created in any other location because they are strongly connected to the site, both physically and conceptually, utilizing the features of the space where the works are presented, the story of the place, and the surrounding environment. In most cases, I use different materials, production methods, and styles of expression to suit the space each time.
In addition to creatingmy own works, I am also actively involved in exploring personal and international connections between artists, such as organizing exchange gatherings for artists of all genres, and launching and managing art exchange projects between Japan and Mexico.
