西野 達《家具のシャンデリア/Spreading out like an open fan》《名古屋クロス・葡萄色》©ToLoLo studio
半世紀にも渡り市民広場として使用されてきた「栄広場」の歴史から、その地に建つ「HAERA」に誰でもが気軽に親しみを持って入館できるよう「リビングルーム」をコンセプトにエントランスデザインを考えました。リビングルームにあるようなソファやチェストなどの家具を構成してシャンデリアとして天井から吊るし、壁には名古屋を象徴する事物をモチーフとしたオリジナルの壁紙を貼ることで、アート作品としてリビングルームを表現したのです。
中部地方は家具作りでも有名な地域ですが、この作品に使われる家具はほとんど海外のアンティークを使っています。それは日本一の貿易量を誇る愛知県の国際性を表し、さらにはインターナショナルな店舗や来館するであろう国際色豊かな入場者をも象徴しています。

In 1997, he began his career as an artist in Europe, targeting “ordinary people who aren’t usually interested in art” as his audience and adopting a style that moves away from the confines of the art world—such as museums and galleries—to install works outdoors.
He views “the expansion of human imagination” as the raison d’être of art and creates his works using “laughter, violence, and sexiness” as his tools.
