Work Details
Glasses of milk, stacked precariously.
Drink the lowest one dry, and from its underside the name of a primate appears. All of them are mammals that, like us, lived on this earth and were raised on their mother’s milk. Yet many are recorded on the Red List as endangered, beings that may one day vanish from this world.
Society drives globalization onward, consuming everything. But is that truly what should take priority, for the lives that are disappearing? Have we grievously mistaken our priorities?
If nothing changes, the glasses will empty and collapse.
What if we were the ones, next, to become those who fill?
Little by little is enough, as with the love and the milk once poured into us.

Conceptual Artist
Born in Kanagawa, based in Tokyo.
Yudai Nakaya's practice begins with a sense of dissonance felt in the face of a single event. He re-describes that event from multiple perspectives—human, society, animal, plant, time, machine—and turns the gaps that emerge between these descriptions into works.
Each project is numbered as a "Case": one Case is a body of multiple descriptions surrounding one event. A Case is never complete; descriptions from new perspectives are added over time. As long as there are events in the world, the Cases will continue to grow.
