Work Details
This work was taken from a quarry in Kagawa Prefecture. The landscape seen from the small stone underneath the work is drawn on a black paper file with that stone. It is a site where precious stones are produced, but there are only a few stones that can be sold. The value for humans in the great outdoors seems very small. (This work is hard to remove dust and dirt because the ground is paper files. (An acrylic case or frame is required for long-term displays)
The exhibition was displayed on a panel at the Q Art Museum, and on a sheet at the Aji Stone Fair.
This is a view from the viewpoint of a small stone broken into pieces in a large quarry. I'm drawing with stones on black sandpaper, just like writing with chalk on a blackboard. The stone will also be displayed along with the work.
The stones we see in buildings and gardens are cut out of these stone quarries. This stone quarry produces the highest quality tombstone among the stones. There are very few perfect stones available on the market. Over 90% of the stones are scraps. There is very little value in human society compared to the vastness of the natural world. Small pieces falling at the stone quarry are worthless in the human world. However, that stone has been with the Earth's history, and it has been in this world for a long time before us. We humans are part of nature. Our existence is also part of human history, and there are aspects that are different from the values of the human world.
I'm drawing on black sandpaper with those pebbles, just like drawing with chalk on a blackboard. The painting reflects the unique hardness and color of the stone.
Approximately 4 months, including coverage and planning
Pictured location: Hiroshima, Marugame City, Kagawa Prefecture Production location: Atelier
The small stone I found at the stone quarry had a shape close to a square. As I drew the work with that stone, the corners were scraped and rounded. So I chose “the landscape seen by the square stone.”
