作品详情
Taking Joseph Kosuth’s work as its starting point, this piece extends, through transparent liquid, the structure by which a single thing branches into multiple meanings.
Transparent liquids look, at a glance, the same.
Water, rainwater, tears, sweat, holy water, an IV drip, pesticide solution, anti-theft liquid, and so on.
Visually near one another, yet the moment a name is given, they begin to take on wholly different roles.
One transparency is not merely transparent.
Seen through the many viewpoints of human, animal, plant, time, artificial intelligence, peace, and war, transparent liquid turns into a substance of entirely different meaning.
To see the same thing through different eyes is an attempt to question the very meaning of seeing and of naming.
艺术家
Conceptual Artist
Born in Kanagawa, based in Tokyo.
Yudai Nakaya's practice begins with a sense of dissonance felt in the face of a single event. He re-describes that event from multiple perspectives—human, society, animal, plant, time, machine—and turns the gaps that emerge between these descriptions into works.
Each project is numbered as a "Case": one Case is a body of multiple descriptions surrounding one event. A Case is never complete; descriptions from new perspectives are added over time. As long as there are events in the world, the Cases will continue to grow.
