作品详情
This work was born from an unforgettable line spoken by Harrison Yamanaka, a character in Tokyo Swindlers, the series that drew wide attention on Netflix in Japan: “the most physical, the most primitive, and the most fetishistic way.”
The sole of a shoe is, by nature, a region no one sees, seldom noticed in daily life. Yet by deliberately reproducing and displaying the sole of the western boots he favored, the work brings to the foreground the figure who dwells within it and the tension the story gives off.
This sole does not remain within fiction. It touches the real ground, outside the screen.
To draw the viewer into the story: that is what I call a “spectacular view.”
艺术家
Conceptual Artist
Born in Kanagawa, based in Tokyo.
Yudai Nakaya's practice begins with a sense of dissonance felt in the face of a single event. He re-describes that event from multiple perspectives—human, society, animal, plant, time, machine—and turns the gaps that emerge between these descriptions into works.
Each project is numbered as a "Case": one Case is a body of multiple descriptions surrounding one event. A Case is never complete; descriptions from new perspectives are added over time. As long as there are events in the world, the Cases will continue to grow.
