トピアリー

トピアリーとは、樹木を刈り込んで作る庭園彫刻のことです。

伊藤は「相反する状態が両立している姿」をテーマに作品制作を行なっている。このテーマは、在日外国人という自身の生い立ちや、その中で培われた考え方に起因している。平面、立体、素材を問わずに、自身に馴染みのある形態を日々選択して作品を作る。

The theme of my work is “figures in which conflicting states are compatible”. This theme stems from my upbringing as a foreigner living in Japan, and the way of thinking that I have cultivated. Each day I choose to create in forms that are familiar to me, regardless of whether they are two-dimensional or three-dimensional, and regardless of the material.

伊藤さんは常に相反する事象や心理に興味を抱き制作をしている作家である。それは彼女が在日外国人として生きてきたことが大きく関係している。立派なビルのような建物の上に奇妙な形に歪んだ屋上庭園、大きな野原に奇妙なビルと、Web上で加工されたような変な形の犬。それらは自然に慣れ親しんだ風景のようでありつつも、彼女を通して見られた歪んでいく風景は常に変化しバランスを保ちながら構成されている。

Ito is an artist who is always interested in contradicting phenomena and mentalities during her work. This is heavily related to her life as a foreigner living in Japan. A rooftop garden distorted into a strange shape above a fine building-like structure, a weird building in a vast field, and a strange shaped dog as if heavily filtered on the web. These may seem like scenes we are naturally familiar with, but the distorted scenes perceived through her are composed, always maintaining a balance through change.
