Work Details

Rose Buds

When I feel love for someone, I decide if I am in love or not by how much I want to touch that person. Then I look down on myself and savor my feelings. Then I see myself as lovable with sexual desire, dominance, affection, and many other feelings.

Production methods and tools used

Gesso is applied to a wooden panel to create a texture, and oil paint is layered on top. By scratching the uneven surface, a sense of depth is expressed in the two-dimensional work.

About the production place (atelier)

I have a home and studio in the south of Kyoto. The Uji River flows in front of my house, and taking a walk along the river is a daily routine. I often get inspiration from nature, so taking a walk is an important part of my daily routine. The sunlight that changes from hour to hour, the veins of leaves, the clouds in the sky... Nature teaches me the essence of what I want to create.

MEGUMI SATONAGA

photographer / Artist

After working as a photographer for about 12 years, I began seriously pursuing painting, an interest I'd held since childhood. Several years ago, I moved my studio from Tokyo to Kyoto. Currently, I continue my creative activities from both bases, working as both a photographer and a painter.
