Doodle on the world

Japan has a Shinto culture. All natural objects are believed to be inhabited by deities, and the sun and moon are worshipped.

There is also a culture of animism called Tsukumogami, in which spirits dwell in ancient tools and other objects, which has been a part of Japanese culture since childhood.

And this universe is made up of regularities.

Just as there is regularity in the arrangement of DNA, the stars shining in our galaxy appear to be randomly arranged, but as a whole they are shaped like ellipses and spirals.

These two elements form the core of the "Doodle on the world" series I am working on.

When I go home and look at the pictures on my computer, I look for regularities that I did not notice when I clicked the shutter. And when I find a piece of the universe, I add a hint of it from the invisible to the visible.

In a world full of divine mischief, I like the process of finding its traces.

MEGUMI SATONAGA

photographer / Artist

After working as a photographer for about 12 years, I began seriously pursuing painting, an interest I'd held since childhood. Several years ago, I moved my studio from Tokyo to Kyoto. Currently, I continue my creative activities from both bases, working as both a photographer and a painter.
