■Profile

“tricot” is a Japanese alternative rock band that was formed in the historical and cultural city of Kyoto on Sep 1, 2010.

The band develops an unusual and distinctive sound that consists of harmonization of pop and emotional vocals with a complex rhythm. The members are not familiar with math rock and such harmonization is not created on purpose.

“tricot” has been to many places around the world and successfully held a total of 109 shows overseas through 3 Asia tours, 2 Europe tours including a supporting act for Pixies in the UK, US tours and UK tours. Their concert events are often sold-out and tricot is active throughout the world as musicians.

After working as a designer for a game company, the artist works in the two fields of art and illustration.

Based on the concept of “an approach to painting that can only be done in the present day where the boundary between digital things and things that exist is blurred,” they print digitally created data and create painting works using various other techniques on top of it by printing digitally created data and manipulating it using drawing materials.

He is also active as an illustrator under the name “Hirose,” and has also worked on illustrations for domestic and international games, light novels, and popular works such as “Hatsune Miku.”

What foundation does what we call "reality" actually have?

Since the development of digital technology, material existence and data existence have not only not been separated, but have permeated each other, and the boundary between them is becoming almost meaningless in terms of perception. Non-material images take on a strong sense of reality, and conversely, things that exist as material are also consumed symbolically as information. In this inverted situation, "existence" and "perception" are no longer self-evident, but appear as unstable processes that are constantly being generated.
