Mixed-media digital work

Archival pigment print, mounted on aluminum

The seasons have come full circle, bringing me another opportunity to work with carnations.

For this series, I photographed the source images using a different camera setting than usual.
The result was an image where vivid colors seemed to emerge from the darkness.
I wanted to see how that change would transform the work itself.

I also adjusted the composition.
It gradually settled into one with fewer flowers and stems, leaving a generous amount of negative space.
Rather than treating that space as emptiness, I approached it as a place where forms and colors could 𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗼 throughout the composition.

A rhythm begins to emerge.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.
𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗼.

If I were to compare the process to music, It felt to me like practicing a Bach Invention over and over again.
I wonder if that feeling comes across.

I create my work with a contemporary sensibility and a gently poetic visual language. Using photographs and photo collages taken with a digital camera as esquisses, I shape and refine each piece on the computer. Throughout my practice, I return to the theme of “the breath of flowers,” exploring quiet moments and subtle tension through color and composition. My work is presented both online and in physical exhibitions. Graduated from Musashino Art University, Faculty of Art and Design Start artist activities in 2024 __________ “I capture a moment before it fully resolves — When form, space, and breath are still in tension.” __________ Narasaki Emi/EMMI NARASAKI visual artist Based in Japan Emi Narasaki/EMMI NARASAKI is a visual artist based in Japan. She creates works on the themes of the relationship between flowers and colors, and the tension in serenity. It features a unique method for constructing images with layers divided for each color using photographs and digital processes. His works have been presented at international group exhibitions, starting in Tokyo. __________ Artist Statement I capture scenes in which flowers appear as characters. Each flower is part of the cast. I consider where to focus, and what moment to hold. The texture of a petal. The fine hair along a stem. A faint stain that appears over time. And then I decide what kind of dress the flower will wear.
