CERES in the Cage 3
2025, Keyaki powder, acrylic paint, 18 x 10 x 8.5 cm
concepts
This is a small item using “keyaki (keyaki),” which is extremely hard among Japanese broad-leaved trees. The square “cage (cage cage)” that surrounds the work plays a role as a grid (barrier) that draws a boundary with the outside world. The organic form of CERES (goddess of fertility), which exists to be protected inside this sturdy wooden frame, harbors quiet yet powerful vitality due to the contrast between the hard surface of the keyaki wood and the white texture of the powder. It is a one-wood predecessor sculpture that embodies the theory of “Grid Animism.”

Artist
Sculptor
I am exploring a sculptural approach based on material selection and physical actions, drawing on memories of natural landscapes from my childhood, Japan’s syncretic culture, and my experience of living in Germany for about six and a half years. Through this, I am deepening my interpretation of the forms and structures of nature, as well as natural and cultural diversity, while pursuing “the beauty of harmony in which heterogeneous elements coexist.”
