Work Details

Enduring Absence, 2026, 100 x 81.5 cm, Oil on linen (framed)

“Furry” represents the artist himself, while the Fay(girl) symbolizes humanity. Smith created this portrait using traditional academic painting techniques, particularly those developed in the Netherlands since the Renaissance. The work is built through multiple layers of transparent oil paint, creating depth and luminosity.

The Fay carries cleaning tools, symbolizing the ongoing effort to clear and restore the human mind.

The headphones represent the psychological barriers we construct to cope with the unavoidable violence and noise of contemporary life. The swimming rings further suggest a desire for protection and emotional resilience.

Smith worked on several canvases simultaneously, alternating between them to maintain focus and a fresh perspective throughout the painting process.

Artist

Aof Smith completed his Master of Fine Arts Program in Visual Arts, KMITL, Thailand in 2013 and has been based in Bangkok ever since. Smith creates a strange world in which disparate elements—such as lovable characters, artificial objects and waste, and themes with humor and irony—blend seamlessly, using fantasy to reveal the contradictions and fragility of society. He has become an artist at the forefront of the Thai art scene with his remarkable expression and originality. Since his postgraduate studies, Smith has actively exhibited his work in group exhibitions across Thailand, the United States, China and Singapore, gaining international recognition. Altering painting materials, his 2017 solo exhibition “SILENT RAVAGE” (SAC Gallery, Bangkok) enhanced visual impact and attracted significant attention. He held his first solo exhibition in the United States, “Irrepressible Summer Melody”, at Thinkspace Projects (Los Angeles, California) in 2022, followed by his first solo exhibition in Japan, “HERITAGE”, at MEGUMI OGITA GALLERY in 2023. 2013 Master of Fine Arts Program in Visual Arts , KMITL / Bangkok 2009 Bachelor of Fine Art, Chulalongkorn University / Bangkok Solo Exhibition: 2026 NORMALIZED DISTOTION, MEGUMI OGITA GALLERY / Tokyo, Japan 2025 Unrevealed Traits, BeinArt Gallery / Melbourne, Australia 2023 VIBRATION, Thinkspace Projects / Los Angeles, CA HERITAGE, MEGUMI OGITA GALLERY/ Tokyo, Japan 2022 Irrepressible Summer Melody, Thinkspace Projects / Los Angeles, CA 2017 SILENT RAVAGE, SAC / Bangkok, Thailand 2015 Skeptical, SAC / Bangkok, Thailand 2012 Tempting Passion, Vanishing Emotion, Number 1 Gallery / Bangkok, Thailand Selected Exhibitions: 2025 PSYCHONAUTS, Mirus Gallery / Denver, CO PERSEVERANCE: 20 Years of Thinkspace, The Brand Library and Art Center / Glendale, CA 2024 ART CENTRAL / Hong Kong, China I AM FINE !
