Images fill the screen. They are intricately composed of latticework and worm-like layers with and without color. The base image is William Morris's botanical pattern, but it evokes a deep, writhing sensation. If you look closely at the eyes on the screen, you may be able to detect the presence of something on the screen, if you can recognize it. If we can recognize it, we may be able to perceive the presence of something on the screen, and the viewpoint of that something staring at us invites our consciousness into the screen in the manner of a classical painting. A painting is not only “something to see” but also “something to be seen. Robert's “Flickering Realms” includes not only the painting itself, but also the place where we are looking at it.
