Work Details
Fragile Presence, 2026, 100 x 81.5 cm, Oil on linen (framed)
“Furry” represents the artist himself, while the Fay(girl) symbolizes humanity. Smith created this portrait using traditional academic painting techniques, particularly those developed in the Netherlands since the Renaissance. The work is built through multiple layers of transparent oil paint, creating depth and luminosity.
The Fay carries cleaning tools, symbolizing the ongoing effort to clear and restore the human mind.
The headphones represent the psychological barriers we construct to cope with the unavoidable violence and noise of contemporary life. The swimming rings further suggest a desire for protection and emotional resilience.
Smith worked on several canvases simultaneously, alternating between them to maintain focus and a fresh perspective throughout the painting process.

Aof Smith completed his Master of Fine Arts Program in Visual Arts, KMITL, Thailand in 2013 and has been based in Bangkok ever since. Smith creates a strange world in which disparate elements—such as lovable characters, artificial objects and waste, and themes with humor and irony—blend seamlessly, using fantasy to reveal the contradictions and fragility of society. He has become an artist at the forefront of the Thai art scene with his remarkable expression and originality.
