Work Details
ハンドサイン は言語を介さず意思を伝えることが出来るひとつの言語である。
言語という枠組みでしばられていた関係から脱却し、言葉を介さなくても共通認識として
感情や意味を伝えるための言語を超えた言語としての機能を獲得する。
「人差し指＝index finger」のindexは「指し示す」「指標」という意味があり、人差し指を立てる行為は「静かに」、そして人差し指を差す行為は目的物や行き先を示す。
人差し指は自身の進むべき道を照らすモチーフとして、そして他者ではなく画面を通して自身に向けられた「静かに」というハンドサインは「何かを成し遂げるためには口を動かすのではなく行動を起こせ」というメッセージを込めて。
言葉にすると陳腐に聞こえてしまうハンドサインが表すある種の祈りをコンセプトに制作しました。
また近年は余分なものを削ぎ落とす行為こそが「本質を追求する行為」であると捉えてアクリルを何層にも重ねて削り出すことで模様を描いています。

MANABU KISHIMOTO seeks to depict the very essence of human “existence” by scraping away layers of paint.
His work applies the traditional Japanese technique of “grinding out,” using water to grind away layers of acrylic paint applied over and over. This reveals traces of complexly overlapping colors beneath the scraped surface.
Through this act of “scraping,” he attempts to strip away boundaries drawn by society and attributes imposed later, revealing the pure essence of human existence—the simple fact of being.
