Work Details

This series is a painting drawn through the process of taking photographs of flowers and plants found in everyday life and then disassembling and reconstructing those images on a computer.

I chose flowers as a motif because I was attracted to their diverse forms and colors, and at the same time I thought that the traditional theme of flower painting, which had been drawn for a long time regardless of east or west, could be reinterpreted from the viewpoint of contemporary art.

By decomposing a photograph into a flat color plane, the elements that made up the original image lose their role and change to a parallel existence without hierarchy. By erasing shapes and connecting different parts in the process, a new world different from the original flower appears. On a screen where color surfaces that once existed separately are connected, the picture and ground have an equal relationship, and by constantly reversing, a visual space that exists at the same time but cannot be recognized at the same time is created.

The finished image leaves a slight impression of plants, yet brings a different impression depending on the viewer's experiences and memories, or the place and time of viewing.

The motif for this work is Kobushi (Magnolia kobus).

Tin powder is used for the silver colored ground.
