Work Details
太古より日本の地中には大鯰が潜み、度々暴れては大地を揺らすといわれていた。今でも鹿島神宮や香取神宮には、地中の鯰を抑える要石が祀られている。はじめて鯰絵を見た私は、「地震という想像を超えた恐怖を身近な生き物の“鯰”に置き換え、ユーモラスな絵にすることで、その困難を乗り越えようとしたのではないか」と感じた。彼が生まれた1993年は日本列島が地震の活発期に入ったと言われる年でもあり、どこかで地震を身近に感じてきたという。今作では日本列島に見立てた12枚の襖絵を、鯰、現代の鯰絵としてのゴジラ、自然災害などのモチーフで構成。そこでは歴史と現代、現実と虚構や想像、変化と普遍などが織り交ざっている。

Artist

Born in Kanagawa in 1993. Graduated from Kyoto University of Art and Design Graduate School of Painting. After studying in Beijing, he has been active mainly in Kyoto. Since 2021, he has also been active as a unit “Thumb Princess” with food stall researcher Takanori Shimodera. While using the context and technical materials of Japanese painting, he creates works focusing on history where disasters invisible to people and forces that cannot be resisted have always been regarded as something black. After completing the Kyoto University of Art Graduate School painting department in 2019, he went to Beijing to study abroad. Currently, he lives in Komyoin Temple, the tower of Tofuku-ji Temple, and is engaged in production activities.
