Work Details
昔はこの祠の前の旭川に龍頭の淵という深い淵があった。この淵に大きな鯢がおり、その近くに牛馬や人が行くと尾をもって掻き込み呑んでしまうので村人は恐れて近づかなかったという。文禄の初年この大はんざきを退治しようと向湯原村の若者三井彦四郎は腰に紐を結び短刀を口に龍頭の淵に飛び込みこの大はんざきを討ち取った。引き上げた大はんざきの大きいのに村人は恐れ驚いた。体長三丈六尺（十メートル余）胴周り一丈八尺（五メートル余）あったという。このことがあってから、毎夜彦四郎の家の戸を叩き泣き叫ぶものがあるので出て見ても誰もおらず、村人達は恐れて日暮れになると戸を締めて外へは出なくなったという。間もなく彦四郎一家は死に絶え村内にも祟りがおよぶようになったので村人は国司神社の境内に祠を建てはんざきの霊を祀ったのが鯢大明神と伝えられる。（作陽誌より）当時の人々は災害という見えない恐怖を身近な生き物に置き換えることで安心感を得ていたのかもしれない。情報の溢れる現代に大鯢は何を伝えようとしているのだろうか。

Born in Kanagawa in 1993. Graduated from Kyoto University of Art and Design Graduate School of Painting. After studying in Beijing, he has been active mainly in Kyoto. Since 2021, he has also been active as a unit “Thumb Princess” with food stall researcher Takanori Shimodera. While using the context and technical materials of Japanese painting, he creates works focusing on history where disasters invisible to people and forces that cannot be resisted have always been regarded as something black. After completing the Kyoto University of Art Graduate School painting department in 2019, he went to Beijing to study abroad. Currently, he lives in Komyoin Temple, the tower of Tofuku-ji Temple, and is engaged in production activities.
