ブラジル北東部の半乾燥性のセルタォン地帯では中世の神話的世界が人々の想像力や芸術に影響し、そこで生まれた詩や歌、物語や伝説は遠い昔の出来事やより新しい時代の要素を混ぜながら口承によって都会や田舎に伝わった。この作品は民衆の空想に刻まれた、1930年代から1950年代のブラジル北東部セルタォン地帯を舞台とする典型的人物を表現している。

The medieval mythical universe inspired the thought and the art made in Brazilian Northeast hinterland with poems, songs, novels, and fables –, which got to the cities and to the countryside through the oral tradition, mixing elements of different times, either returning to immemorial times, or incorporating creations of more recent periods. This work presents a typical character of the Northeastern hinterland of Brazil, of the decades of 1930’s to 1950’s, which remained in the popular imagination.

O universo mítico medieval inspirou o pensamento e a arte feita no sertão do nordeste brasileiro com poemas, cantigas, romances e fábulas –, que chegaram às cidades e às roças, por meio da tradição oral, misturando elementos de diferentes épocas, seja recuando a tempos imemoriais, seja incorporando criações de períodos mais recentes. Essa obra apresenta um personagem típico do sertão nordestino do Brasil, das décadas de 1930 a 1950, que ficou no imaginário popular.
