Chicago Maps (on the origin of the country)

ーシカゴという都市の起源はサント・ドミンゴ出身のジャン・バティスト・ポワン・デュー・サーブルという毛皮商人と大きく関係しています。彼は初めてシカゴ川流域に入植地を建て、農場や毛皮の行商によって都市を発展させました。私の作品の中で電子基盤の回路や部品は整列されたシカゴ上空図の都市構造や建築物を反映していますが、クマの毛皮はシカゴという名の由来となった先住民の言葉が持つ「強き者」というニュアンスや都市の起源や発展を表しています。基盤の配置は私が2018 年夏に訪れたシカゴのダウンタウンの地図通りに、厳密に計算された上で大都市のジオラマとして広がっています。

The city of Chicago owes much of its origin to a Haitian fur trader named Jean Baptiste Point du Sable. He built early settlements in the Chicago River Basin which led to the growth of the city through farms and fur trading. In my work, electric circuit boards and their components reflect the urban structure and architecture of the aerial map of Chicago and the bear fur represent the city’s name, which has a suggestive meaning of "strong" in the Native American language, the origin, and the development of a city. Strictly calculated and spread as a diorama of a big city on the fur.
