Comment from GALLERY ZERO
Inspired by “ Night Sky ” by Vija Celmins, Yabe's favorite American painter, this work is her attempt to express the shimmering light in her own way. I made small holes in the paper and illuminated them with a backlight. The motif is organic and intricate in Yabe's own way, so it looks like a shimmering galaxy. Yabe calls it “ Hole Drawing, ” but I am inclined to call it “ Light Drawing .”
“ Maze #2 ” has the surface of the paper painted silver. The maze shape can also be seen, but this one is truly an accumulation of light, a shimmering of the night sky. If you can find a power source, why not hang it at tea ceremony ?
