Beauty and Harmony of Nature

Cúmez is known for work that conveys the traditions of South American Maya culture to contemporary society, and says, “nature is like a mother.” She vividly expressed the relationship between the nature of the Northern Alps and the people she encountered at Shinano-Omachi through her view of the world, unique to Maya culture. The work she exhibited at the former Omachi Kita High School in the 2021 art festival will be reopened at Shoroku Alp, a second-hand bookshop that holds many books about mountains and nature. During the exhibition, the shop will also present a shelf with books selected to reflect the theme of the festival.
