The work is a sound installation composed of 5 sets of fluorescent lamps, fluorescent light fixtures, speakers, and AM radios, respectively.
Use fluorescent lights that “flicker” when they get old and are on the verge of being completely cut off.
Even when the radio tries to receive audio broadcasts in real time, radio waves just before reception are disturbed by flickering fluorescent lights (electromotive power/voltage drop), amplified as various noises, and are pronounced. The medium wave band of AM radios is particularly susceptible to this electromagnetic noise.
As a result, the flickering of the fluorescent lamp and the noise interfering with the radio sound seem to be synchronous/audible, but there are actually no cables directly connected between the fluorescent lamp and the radio. This synchronizing (appearing to be) phenomenon occurs because the irregular flickering of fluorescent lamps and the associated appearance of interference caused by an invisible radio wave magnetic field are simultaneously occurring in the sound.
Today, regardless of radio, invisible electromagnetic waves are flying in space at all wavelengths and for all purposes, and people, including me, are unconsciously coordinating them as part of their lives.
However, even by confronting and colliding in contrast to coordination, the essence of things is revealed from a different perspective than before. As the language and music played from the AM radio and the semantics of old fluorescent lights collide and confuse each other, rather, the essence of each thing sparkles and asserts each other.
Fluorescent lights have an angle (orientation), but this is not just at-random, but represents the reception angle of the radio when “above” is assumed to be north from the horizon. The angle and impression inevitably change depending on the arrangement of fluorescent lights, the location and distance of the broadcast transmission station, and the place where they are displayed.
