20世紀最高の宗教画家であるジョルジュ・ルオーを記念して建てられた礼拝堂。入口の扉の上のステンドグラス「ブーケ」や祭壇背後のキリスト像(17世紀)は、ルオー自身が制作・彩色したもので、ルオーの次女イザベル・ルオーから長三がそれらを贈られたことをきっかけにつくった礼拝堂でもあります。堂内の壁面にはルオーの銅版画「ミセレーレ」が掲げられ、宗教や信仰とは関係なく、この村を訪れる芸術家たちの瞑想の場にも。建築設計者は白樺美術館と同じく谷口吉生氏です。
This chapel was built to celebrate Georges Rouault, the greatest religious painter of the 20th century. The stained glass placed above the entrance called “Bouquet” was made by Georges Rouault. Also the coloring of the wooden crucifix (17th century), behind the alter were done by his hand. | Established in April, 1986.

建築家。谷口吉郎(よしろう)の長男。丹下健三にまなぶ。昭和54年谷口建築設計研究所所長。5年資生堂アートハウスで建築学会賞,62年土門拳記念館で芸術員賞。平成6年猪熊弦一郎現代美術館で村野藤吾賞。20年芸術院会員。東京出身。慶大卒,ハーバード大卒。作品はほかに金沢市立図書館(現金沢市立玉川図書館),葛西臨海水族園など。
