Inspired by H. Matisse's window work,
This picture depicts three women sitting by a cafe window.
One person is wearing a red kimono, and the other is Islamic dressed in white, and the red and white colors are reminiscent of the Japanese flag. The other one is an image of a Western woman.
I have been fascinated by the “quiet tension” and “soft coexistence” that are born the moment different cultures meet.
In this work, while drawing women chatting by the cafe window,
Through the scouts they wear, they symbolize the gaze of others in modern society.
People measure each other and live while being measured at the same time — that complicated intersection of lines of sight
It is superimposed on peaceful everyday scenes.
A coffee tree is sprouting from the coffee cup on the table.
It means that culture is exchanged like a drink, takes root, grows,
It's a metaphor for eventually creating a new story.
Outside the window, there is a glider with blue lilies blooming,
It functions as a poetic image of culture moving across the sky, transforming, and reinterpreting.
The “eye” drawn on the other window
Involve the viewer's own gaze in the work,
It reverses the question “who is watching whom.”
This is a reconstruction of the “fluctuation of the boundary between inside and outside” in Matisse's window works as a philosophy of modern perspective.
I would like to depict people standing at cultural crossroads with an allegorical yet intimate sense of distance.
This work is a place where evaluation society and intercultural dialogue overlap,
The gaze circulates, the boundaries are reversed,
It captures the moment when quiet dialogues sprout into a new world.

IROKA (Iroka) is an artist based in Fukuoka City who works both domestically and internationally. Using “kawaii” as the entrance with delicate lines and sophisticated colors, expressions that quietly illuminate momentary feelings, invisible border crossings, and social landscapes are performed. I also began to express myself in installations in 2025. Selected as the MOST INVESTABLE ARTIST DIRECTORY by Florence Contemporary Gallery [50Artists to Discover 2025] and Art Market Experts. Published in parallel with Biancosucro art magazine #72にTim Burton article Artwork at Georgia National Telavi Historical Museum in 2023 “Framed cat” collection IROKA (Iroka) is an internationally acclaimed artist based in Fukuoka City. Growing up with her father, who had hobbies such as ceramics, oil painting, and photography, there was always art in her environment. However, it can be said that initially she was interested in appreciating art and foreign culture rather than creating her own creations, and she especially loved visiting museums in Paris, which laid the foundation for her art journey. Participating in a henna tattoo booth as a volunteer at an event in India in 2018 was a turning point for her. This experience enriched her mind and inspired her passion for art to blossom. After the COVID-19 pandemic, she began creative activities in earnest and established her own unique style. IROKA's works are characterized by delicate lines and vivid, elegant colors, and depict momentary fluctuations in the mind, deep emotions, and social phenomena. They are exploring deeper themes while attracting viewers, using the element “cute (kawaii)” as a trigger. Her work has been exhibited at many important exhibitions, received numerous awards, and received international acclaim.
