Work Details
This is a new series that combines UV relief printing with acrylic painting. I have named these small 15 cm square canvas works the “.icon” series. Based on the idea that all things—mountains, rivers, plants, and trees—can attain Buddhahood, I depict a wide range of subjects, including Buddhist imagery, flowers, and digital devices.
Speaking of Maitreya Bodhisattva, the statue at Kōryū-ji is well known. Kōryū-ji is located very close to Uzumasa Eigamura (Toei Kyoto Studio Park). After watching the film Kamata March, I suddenly felt like going to Uzumasa and went for a walk there, and then stopped by Kōryū-ji. It was already late in the afternoon, so I remember hurrying to see Maitreya before the temple closed. The face was gentle. It reminded me a little of Paul Klee’s “Forgetful Angel.” I feel that Maitreya, before becoming Maitreya—when he was still known as the Bodhisattva seeking fame—might also have been a bit forgetful.

Using digital expressions such as video games, pixel art, XR, AI, etc., they are exploring the state of physicality and rituals in the digital age using characters and game structures as clues. While referring to the viewpoint of Eastern thought, he creates works that reconsider the structure and assumptions of contemporary art. Typical projects include the solo exhibition “Mecharial” (2023) at the Yamanashi Prefectural Museum of Art, the exhibition project “Character Matrix” (2024) with BUG, and the installation “Hyperman Bang Go O” (2025) at GINZA SIX. The work was collected in the Yamanashi Prefectural Museum of Art in 2025. Artist selected by OpenAI “SORA SELECT TOKYO”.
