Bottomless Thirst (2016)

一見、何の変哲も無い白い紙袋が床にポツンと置いてある。中を覗くと、紙袋一杯に水が溜まっている。底には排水溝が見えるが水が流れていく気配はない。今にも紙袋から水が溢れ、決壊しそうな不安定なその姿は、あるいは私たちの日常に潜む様々な崩壊の兆しのよう。

立体・映像を制作。アジアの民間伝承や民族文化のリサーチを通じて、あらゆる民族や時代にかかわらず人々が共有するイメージを取り入れた、ナラティブな映像表現を試みる。Japanese artist Shinobu Soejima creates stop-motion animation and sculptures that explore impermanence and fear of the unexpected, and many of her works use motifs from Asian folk stories and religious ceremonies.
