Work Details
This monkey, called the chimpanzee “ham,” is an essential animal in American space history, and is also a chimpanzee that performed ballistic flight in order to perform the first space flight by an American in the Mercury program leading to the Apollo program, and was worn on that pioneering chimpanzee with the Apollo program, Apollo 11, which was also the culmination of American space development. Multiple LIFE magazines from 1969, which featured Apollo 11, were used as materials.
