《high school emblem》

私の「東京の原風景」は、中学高校時代、横浜市のニュータウンから通った、山の手にある麻布である。学校の校庭からは、東京タワーを右手に、ちょうどニョキニョキと伸びていく六本木ヒルズを左手に眺められた。
麻布という地名の由来は諸説あるが、かつてこの地に麻を多く植え、布を織り出していたところからきているそうだ。麻と言えばマリファナだが、麻布にはたくさんの大麻が生い茂っていたのだろうか。
2018年からカナダで娯楽目的の使用が合法化されたように、大麻は世界的には解禁の流れだ。一方日本では、未だに大麻の所持は重大な犯罪として取り上げられる。もちろん単純に礼賛するつもりはないが、少なくとも私には、同じ植物がある土地では合法的な嗜好品で、ある土地では非合法な薬物だという区分に、合理性を感じられない。それはどこか、他校にはないのに自校にはある、理不尽な校則みたいだ。
幸い、学園紛争の名残で母校に校則はなかった。有栖川公園を上がった丘にある校門にはいつも、麻の葉文様に「髙」と書かれた校章が掲げられていた。
