Work Details
Around ninety percent of a fetus, sixty percent of an adult male, fifty-five percent of an adult female, and fifty percent of an elderly individual is made of water.
Consider the water in the transparent vessel before you.
Will it become part of your own fluid composition?
If not, when does it enter that composition—when you place it in your mouth, swallow it, as it’s absorbed by your stomach, or simply the moment you decide to drink?
One of the Petri dishes before you contains cow’s blood—the most widely consumed blood by humankind.
Could that, too, be part of your own fluid makeup?
Place the index finger of your left hand, white and unblemished, into the dish of cow’s blood.
Then touch any of the six clear liquids with your right index finger.
Each drop is a kind of tear.
Each tear, in its own way, is also blood.
If every droplet of water on Earth is connected like veins in a circulatory system,
then as you stand here—confronting the water, the cow, the human, the ocean, the clouds—
can you sense the life in this cycle, whether it belongs to you or to something far larger?
