作品詳情
More than a dozen cars are arranged loosely across a school playground. Each vehicle sounds its horn one at a time, triggered by signals from a central computer. What first seems like mere noise gradually begins to take shape as musical notes, eventually forming a single song.
The song being played is “Ue o Muite Arukō” (“Sukiyaki”). Although it is a song about walking alone in solitude, it is also a song known by many people. The sight of cars gathered on the playground overlaps with scenes of emergency evacuation sites or images seen in news reports. To listen to this song together in such a setting, and for the people of Ibaraki to share that experience in advance, seemed to me like a kind of emotional evacuation drill—something that might help people begin to rise again from a moment of despair if an actual emergency were to occur.
