作品詳情

Chronology
1911 Ito Hirofumi pedestal
1936 Diet Building tower
1942 metal requisition
2023 delayed illumination

This work began with a pedestal left standing in Okurayama Park in Kobe.
The metal statue that once stood there was lost during the wartime requisition of metal, leaving only the pedestal behind. During the research process, I discovered that the same decorative motif used on the pedestal also appears on the tower of the National Diet Building in Tokyo.

From this connection, I constructed a system in which 200 lights turn on two days after a switch is pressed—in other words, “the day after tomorrow.” This delayed illumination links two distant places: a public park in Kobe that anyone can enter, and the National Diet Building, a place accessible only to a limited number of people. At the same time, the delay makes the relationship between an action and its result uncertain.

In this work, “the day after tomorrow” is not treated as a future that should be reached immediately, but as a temporal gap in which memory and the present gradually begin to intermingle.
