Work Details
Smoking Trainee, ink on paper, 25 x 25cm, 2021
The drawing os part of the series “Life of Lucy” ,works revolving around Lucy, a fictional female character. The project is consisted of mainly ink drawing portraits of hers, accompanied by objects, text, and sound works that belong to and are supposed to be written by Lucy herself. The main intention behind this work is to tell a fragmented story about a person who doesn’t exist; through the use of space. The story is told by Lucy herself in combination with the portraits that are drawn by someone else. It is about her struggles in her everyday life due to her mental illness. The story’s character is quite open. There are hints and threads to be followed which are given to the viewer but they have the freedom to construct their own narrative. Ambiguity is a major part that the project aims to explore.

Christos Mavrodis (b.1995) is an audio-visual artist born in Greece, and currently based in the Netherlands. My artistic practice is a reflection of the complexities of modern life, where the lines between reality and fantasy are often blurred. Using various mediums such as ink drawings, film, and installation, I delve into themes of happiness, memory, and mortality. My creative process is one that values spontaneity and intuition, allowing each piece to emerge organically through experimentation and exploration. Drawing inspiration from a range of sources including fairy tales, surrealist art, and existentialist literature, I am driven by an innate fascination with the human condition and our search for meaning in an uncertain world. Through my work, I hope to inspire a sense of reflection and introspection, encouraging viewers to engage with the fundamental questions of existence and the mysteries of the human experience.

I've entered the ARTabi2023 International Contemporary Art Award and All help and funding are appreciated. With the support, I would like to rent a studio and explore my materials more in-depth. I am going to have the possibility to neglect the struggles of survival for some time and focus more on my art.
