Work Details

Concept of the Artwork

I created it from a beautiful snowy landscape I actually saw deep in the mountains of Gunma. Delicate tree silhouettes are drawn in ink on a screen where mica and mineral pigments shine brightly in response to light, expressing the majestic quiet world of nature.

Erika Abe

Artist

Erika Abe is a Tokyo-based Japanese painter born in Hiroshima in 1998. She earned her B.A. from Tama Art University in 2021 and completed her M.A. in Japanese Painting at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2025.

Through the forms of trees, Abe explores the relationship between humans and nature. Working with traditional materials including washi paper, plant-based dyes, and mineral pigments, her practice considers sustainability and the interconnectedness of land, material, and image.
