I use prints and photographs to express the gaps and discrepancy with my surroundings that come from the ambiguity of my identity.
I have always felt a discrepancy with my surroundings as a third-generation Japanese-Brazilian living in Japan, inside a mix of both cultures and languages.
There is a process of etching in printmaking, causing small discrepancies from the ideal image to happen.
I create artwork on the things I have come to see and the place I feel home, as if to accept the ambiguity by projecting my own discrepancies onto that of the plate.

Torigoe is an artist whose production is themed around the ambiguity and discrepancies in identity, her works are largely influenced by her experience growing up in Japan as a third generation Japanese-Brazilian.
She mainly creates prints based on her family and relating memories.
Combining techniques such as copperplate printing and inkjet printing, her work uses methods that are not absolutely controllable to express her ideal self, the ideal environment, and the dilemma of not matching with reality; the overlapping images begin to rise as an existence in her work because they appear misaligned.

1999 Born in Shizuoka 2022 Aichi Prefectural University of Art Graduate School of Fine Arts, Department of Fine Arts, Oil Painting/Printmaking Course 2020 Graduated from Musashino Art University, Faculty of Art and Design, Department of Oil Painting, Printmaking I am exploring the “ambiguity” and “misalignment” inherent in my identity through media such as printmaking and photography. I grew up in Japan as a third-generation Japanese, and the feeling I was nurtured by overlapping cultures and languages was always accompanied by a sense of incongruity with my surroundings. Printmaking, which includes processes such as corrosion and transfer, creates “misalignment” that does not go the way you want. That sense of coincidence and ambiguity resonates with the uncertainty of boundaries that I myself have felt. Even in photos, if you dare to add filters and noise, the image will be blurry and the meaning will not be uniform. It is in this uncertainty that overlooked contours and multi-layered possibilities emerge. For me, production is also the act of looking at myself from a distance. By keeping a distance from things, things you couldn't see come to light. Scenery that can only be seen because the focus is not determined, and the feeling that stands out only because it cannot be clearly defined. Scooping them up and putting them into shape is at the root of my expression.
