Work Details

Concept and Intention of the Artwork

This work was drawn during the WHERE THE WICK FLICKERS exhibition.

In everyday life

There is a moment when I suddenly come into contact with a nameless warmth.

A small fire that lights up in the heart.

Even though it fluctuates, the light comes back again.

There are times when it doesn't get damp

There are times when I'm thirsty and burning.

And yet we

Embrace invisible fluctuations

I'm continuing to walk through the present moment.

Rise from the memory layer

It's a blur of concepts and words

I listen to the feeling of straddling quietly.

What's here

Light up inside you

Memories of a small, nameless fire.

What You Want to Express Through the artwork

Please enter There are times when it gets wet, and there are times when it quenches thirst.
The fire in my heart continues, shaking quietly.

Production Methods and Tools

Cycle of Becoming

This series is “Born, Unraveled, and Reborn Again”

It is a group of works that explore the fundamental cycle of life through dialogue between traditional Japanese materials and modern supports.

Hemp canvas is used as the support, and Japanese paper, which symbolizes the artist Hitomi's roots, is layered on top of it using a unique process.

Run random lines on ultra-thin Japanese paper, shred it into small pieces, and unwind it in water.

Once “destroyed,” the material returns to a state of order and chaos, and is eventually reconstructed as a new foundation. This process of destruction and regeneration is also an attempt to launch a cycle of life that is connected while changing shape as matter.

On top of that foundation, things that compress invisible experiences and emotions through impassive expressions are visualized as flower motifs.

Production Time

Since it is in parallel with various works, I haven't calculated it.

Production Location

I create close to everyday life.

Thoughts on the Artwork and Title

You can include the fluctuations that occur between objects, so keep choosing the fragility and ambiguity

Hitomi

contemporary artist

|ProfileHitomiBorn in 1991 in Saitama. Contemporary artist based in Tokyo.I create paintings using fine perceptions and signs that appear in relationships with nature and people, and the “feeling of life” before they become words as clues.Mainly using acrylic, fluctuations caused by the body, nature, memory, and emotions are developed on the screen while repeating physical strokes and delicate adjustments. The flowers that appear in the work do not depict specific plants, but appear as “flowers as waves of existence,” where the vibrations of life take shape for a moment.|StatementWhat I'm staring at is a feeling or emotion before it becomes a word, and something that rises from that fluctuation.Since I was young, I have been capturing and observing the feelings and emotions that occur within myself. They don't just exist within oneself; they constantly change and resonate in relationships with people and nature.Giving the outline of words to what you receive, and resonate with others through it. The dialogue itself was an expression that had been going on for a long time.Face-to-face dialogue was restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and that expression transitioned to painting. While going back and forth between verbal media and paint media, perception and presence that cannot be captured by words alone were transferred to the screen. In painting, starting from rough positions and images that were improvised, the drawing proceeds while entrusting it to the flow of body movements and senses. Amidst the unexpected changes and changes that arise from there, regions that cannot be touched by consciousness alone emerge.Strong strokes release energy and quiet adjustments that scoop up minute changes. In that round trip, different states such as reason and sensibility, order and chaos, and light and shadow are not in conflict, but rather as something that exists and resonates at the same time. The flowers that appear in the work do not depict specific plants. Traces where the vibrations of life took shape for a moment. It is a “flower as a wave of existence,” where fluctuations in body, nature, memory, and emotion occur on the screen.Paintings do not close down to a single meaning; they quietly resonate with each viewer's body and memory, and new perceptions and sensations are born. I feel the possibility of expression in this open space.
