|ProfileHitomiBorn in 1991 in Saitama. Contemporary artist based in Tokyo.I create paintings using fine perceptions and signs that appear in relationships with nature and people, and the “feeling of life” before they become words as clues.Mainly using acrylic, fluctuations caused by the body, nature, memory, and emotions are developed on the screen while repeating physical strokes and delicate adjustments. The flowers that appear in the work do not depict specific plants, but appear as “flowers as waves of existence,” where the vibrations of life take shape for a moment.|StatementWhat I'm staring at is a feeling or emotion before it becomes a word, and something that rises from that fluctuation.Since I was young, I have been capturing and observing the feelings and emotions that occur within myself. They don't just exist within oneself; they constantly change and resonate in relationships with people and nature.Giving the outline of words to what you receive, and resonate with others through it. The dialogue itself was an expression that had been going on for a long time.Face-to-face dialogue was restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and that expression transitioned to painting. While going back and forth between verbal media and paint media, perception and presence that cannot be captured by words alone were transferred to the screen. In painting, starting from rough positions and images that were improvised, the drawing proceeds while entrusting it to the flow of body movements and senses. Amidst the unexpected changes and changes that arise from there, regions that cannot be touched by consciousness alone emerge.Strong strokes release energy and quiet adjustments that scoop up minute changes. In that round trip, different states such as reason and sensibility, order and chaos, and light and shadow are not in conflict, but rather as something that exists and resonates at the same time. The flowers that appear in the work are not specific plants. It is a trace of the vibrations of life taking shape for a moment, and it is also a phenomenon of fluctuations in the body, nature, memory, and emotions on a screen. For me, flowers are “flowers as waves of existence.”Through drawing, I touch the signs behind what I can see and what my body is receiving before it becomes words. The painting does not close down to a single meaning; it quietly resonates with something in each viewer's body and memory that has not yet been put into words. In that margin, I feel the potential of painting.Production mainly using acrylic progresses in a process that goes back and forth between releasing energy due to physical strokes and making quiet adjustments to scoop up minute changes. Opposing elements such as reason and sensibility, order and chaos, and light and shadow appear on the screen not as confrontations, but as states where they exist and resonate at the same time. The flower motifs that appear in the work do not depict specific plants. They can also be called “flowers as waves of existence,” and the vibrations of life appear momentarily as traces that take shape. Sometimes they are guided consciously, and at other times they naturally emerge from the flow of body movements and senses.Depending on the series, the fluctuations and inhomogeneities of Japanese paper materials are incorporated as supports, and processes such as breaking, unraveling, and reconstructing are carried out. There, traces of time, memory, and breathing remain in matter, and the state of life that repeats changes and cycles appears as a phenomenon on the screen. In Hitomi's work, subtlety and boldness, serenity and heat exist simultaneously. Multiple senses and states of existence coexist within the screen, leaving open spaces for new relationships and senses to emerge within each viewer's perception.
