Work Details

Many of the paintings and landscapes that come to mind are not real, but are shaped from “uniqueness” shared through photography, sightseeing, decoration, etc. I create paintings that move back and forth between familiarity and a sense of incongruity by hand drawing the composition of fragments of such existing images. It contains questions about how we usually recognize, remember, and share images.

While the “Biotop” series uses natural scenery as the theme, it is not simply a reproduction of a landscape, but rather depicts it as an artificially constructed environmental model. Images of plants and terrain that were originally in different contexts are cut and collected in a single space/screen. Although it is an artificially designed environment, various elements coexist, and the concept of a “biotope,” which constructs a unique order, is superimposed on modern visual culture, and I am testing expressions that explore how it should be.

I am interested in the reality contained in images generated as “fiction,” and I am creating it. Traditional and conventional topics are presented as a collage-like screen with expressions drawn by hand as if an existing photograph had been attached. I'm trying to explore a different kind of realistic existence that appears between “imitating” and “revealing” a painting image.
