西尾康之《磔刑》2021年
西尾は、指で粘土を押す軌跡のみで作った雌型から作品を制作する独自の手法「陰刻鋳造」による立体造形で、その膨大な作業と規模の作品が圧倒的な存在感を放つアーティストです。
今回は3mの彫刻作品《磔刑》とレリーフ作品《唐櫃》の2点を展示します。これらの作品は、人間の想像力によって生まれる様々な物語や信仰から着想を得て制作されました。この2作品が、健康に良いと信じられて流行したラドン風呂跡に展示されることにより、西尾は人間が何かを「信じる」ことや、恐怖心や執着から派生する願望や快楽について問いかけます。
