Profile

Biography

Production began with carving using the terracotta (low flame fired soil) technique learned in Italy, and the surface was colored with acrylic paint after firing in 1997. Eventually, they created figures of modern youth and futuristic figures using a novel method of coloring in vivid colors. Kitagawa became widely known in Japan in the “New Type” series, which has long limbs and is slim and life-sized figures that look like characters in anime. Since 2013, glaze has been applied to increase the firing temperature to 1200 degrees in search of skin texture and color depth and intensity. Currently, he works on figurative sculptures using the most advanced ceramics.
