Work Details
I am painting using soil. There is a feeling that it has become part of the regional cycle by making it using materials that are readily available, such as soil collected by oneself and waste materials received at local factories. Also, I feel a sense of security that I can draw without paint or specialized art materials. Utilizing the characteristic of the fresco technique of drawing an image before the plaster dries, I improvise without drafts or planning. Therefore, the pictures drawn reflect the season, climate, physical condition, mood, etc. at that time. The title of the work is written in alphabetical order based on the sound that I came up with after looking at the finished picture. There's no point in that, and I'm wearing it as an extension of the brushstrokes of paint. I feel that pictures drawn unconsciously express human instincts and essence, and I believe that while they are personal, they are also feelings common to all human beings.
We collect soil from places we visit by chance and from our surroundings, and refine it to make pigments. In addition, hemp bags discarded at local bean sprouts factories are reused as canvases. Slaked lime for agriculture is mixed with fibers from hemp bags to make plaster, and before it dries, the soil is drawn with paint dissolved in well water. We use a fresco technique where the calcium component of the plaster coats the soil and fixes it. It is a technique that does not fade and lasts for hundreds of years.
I am making it at home surrounded by nature.
