Work Details

By day, like falling rain; by night, like gleaming needles.

— — — — — — —

I drew it by imagining a knife-like decoration that combines observation and temptation, reason and instincts.

“White rain falling without sound” can be seen in a bright environment. What can be seen without lighting is a myriad of “needle-like glances” from the outside world.

Under night lights, the color begins to reflect a lot, like a costume studded with sequins. I was so puzzled by the temperature difference between the modest color impression during the day and the sparkle.

Under daytime light, it looks like just a trace, but at night, phosphorescence lines emerge sharply, and what is invisible to the eye becomes a switch that looks back at us.

● This work uses phosphorescent pigments.

If there is sufficient irradiation (indoor or natural light) for 15 minutes, part of the light (white falling line) will be emitted for about 8 hours.

In an unlit environment, the light gradually starts to glow in the evening.

The light is strongest at night, and the light softens in the morning.

Nishizawa Naomi

Contemporary Japanese-Style Painting

Naomi Nishizawa creates “The Tale of the Second Moon,” a narrative born from her unique imagination. She is a contemporary artist celebrated for her radiant and intricate compositions employing gold and metallic leaf. Rooted in the traditions of Japanese painting, she fuses diverse materials such as handmade washi paper, oil-based resin, and phosphorescent pigments to create a singular visual world. Within her semi-abstract works, quiet imagined scenes are gently interwoven. These softly spun visions evoke moments from fairy tales and mythology, inviting viewers into a poetic narrative realm. Shimmering, reflective, and glowing materials function not only as decorative elements but also as gateways to dreamlike, multilayered worlds. Since 2019, Nishizawa has exhibited in Japan and internationally, including Paris, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Jakarta, steadily expanding her global recognition and acclaim. She was born in Tokyo, where she lives and works. Naomi Nishizawa creates “The Tale of the Second Moon,” a narrative born from her unique imagination.
