Lin-Yen Ke (b. 1993) holds a PhD in Fine Arts (Art Creation and Theory) from National Taiwan Normal University (2024) and is one of the most notable emerging artists in recent years. His works have been collected by the Taiwan Art Bank, and in 2025 he received the prestigious “Chungshan Youth Art Awards” (Ink Painting Category, First Prize). He has also been invited to hold a solo exhibition at the Keelung Art Museum next year, further demonstrating his growing prominence and creative strength in the field of contemporary ink art.

Biography
Ke is recognized for his distinctive visual language and his contemporary reinterpretation of traditional ink techniques, building a bridge between “tradition” and “modernity.” Through meticulous brushwork, rhythmic compositions, and profound cultural resonance, his works embody an artistic context that is both spiritual and distinctly contemporary.
Rooted deeply in traditional ink painting, Ke draws inspiration from the natural textures of the Laomei Green Reef along Taiwan’s northern coast. From this, he developed his signature technique, the “Nori Texture Method,” which combines rigorously controlled ink-wash diffusion with bold applications of color. This approach not only preserves the essence of classical landscapes but also expands the expressive possibilities of contemporary ink painting. Ke transforms natural scenery into carriers of “local memory,” “embodied experience,” and “Eastern sensibility,” shifting landscapes from mere representation to cultural and experiential narratives.
Thematically, Ke’s practice is grounded in his travels and observations across Taiwan’s diverse environments. His works frequently depict interactions between humans and nature—such as diving, climbing, hiking, beach cleanups, and water sports—reflecting concerns for ecology, energy, and urban development. He hopes viewers may resonate emotionally with his imagery and be encouraged to re-engage with the landscapes and stories that surround them.
In 2024, Ke completed his largest work to date, Eight Landscapes of Taiwan 2024, which takes Taiwan’s geography and social issues as its core. Through a panoramic lens, the piece connects nature, culture, and society, prompting reflection on environmental and public concerns.
Continuously exploring the potential of ink painting, Ke pushes the boundaries of both technique and concept. His practice forges a new vocabulary of contemporary landscape painting that interweaves tradition with modernity. His works have been featured in multiple solo exhibitions and art fairs in Taiwan and have been highly regarded by both academia and collectors.
