Work Details
私はハーフとして、どこへ行っても外国人扱いされることに葛藤を感じていました。周囲と違う自分を意識しながらも、その違いがもたらす独自の視点を大切にしてきました。子供の頃、お風呂に入っている時、ふと自分が人魚になったかのように感じたり、周りに魚が泳ぐ幻想の世界を想像したことがありました。この人魚のように、違う場所にいる自分が周りと調和しながらも独自の存在感を放つことに共鳴し、その思いを作品に込めています。異なる文化を持つ自分自身のアイデンティティを反映させ、さまざまな国の要素を取り入れながら表現しています。
制作手法や使用している道具
主に日本画画材を使って制作しています。鱗などは全部盛り上がっています。

Artist
Japanese mineral pigment painter
Jalyn Tokie. Born in 2000 in the state of Maryland U.S. Graduated from Musashino art university majoring in Japanese painting. Was in a U.S. military camp in Japan during elementary school, and later moved to the state of Alabama during middle and high school.
As a biracial artist, I always think about how I can express my identity through my work.
