Work Details
Concept and production intention of the work
This work depicts a composition inspired by “arrival maps” where Buddhas and bodhisattvas welcome people, such as a utopia appearing from beyond a sea of clouds.
It depicts how colorful towns and buildings quietly appear from between layers of clouds, and I put a sense of divinity and a fantastic atmosphere that makes me feel somewhat nostalgic.
Seen from a distance, it looks like a landscape shrouded in clouds, yet when you look closely, it is a world where you can feel the presence of people's activities, such as buildings, roads, and mechanical structures.
This work was created with the opposite image of the “Hakuten Pillar Horai Map,” which was exhibited at the same time.
Whereas one side depicts the iconic landscape of Horai, this work expresses the moment when the utopia itself appears here from above the clouds.
A longed-for utopia that doesn't exist in reality.
It is a work that each viewer can enjoy while repeatedly imagining “if there was a place like this.”

CONCEPTJapanese Style × Ink Painting × Landscape PaintingIt depicts an imaginary horai as a longing utopia and a beautiful paradise without suffering. It depicts the fictional world of Horai through landscape paintings with new expressions.Horai, which I draw, is a world where mountains, rivers, seas, fields, towns, etc. coexist, and people live there. There are human activities in nature, and someone lives, spends time, and lives there. By imagining such a landscape, a world that does not exist in reality is constructed as a single landscape.Using the images of “Horai,” “Togenkyo,” and “Utopia,” which have been handed down since ancient times, as clues, he repeats his own imagination and depicts it as a new landscape painting. In our daily lives, we seek the utopia we long for and a beautiful place without suffering.Through my work, I want to deliver a landscape where the viewer's mind temporarily separates from reality, enters a world without suffering, and can spend a peaceful time.I want you to enjoy the world I imagine of Horai, where beautiful nature and people's activities coexist.Entered Kyoto City University of Art, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Japanese Painting in 20172021 Graduated from Kyoto City University of Art, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Japanese Painting
