二条城の台所入り口敷石の土間に置かれた鹿は、伝統建築の守護神のように見える。鹿は日本では、 神社仏閣で見られる神獣の一種。名和晃平は、この鹿の剥製をガラスの球体で覆った彫刻をシリーズとして発表している。ガラスの球体は、 レンズのように鹿の剥製の表面を拡大して見せ、 また周囲の風景を歪曲して映し出す。それは映像として永遠に存在する神聖な鹿のようだ。
The deer placed on the stone floor of the kitchen entrance at Nijo-jo Castle looks as if it were a guardian deity of traditional architecture. In Japan, deer are animals of good fortune that can be seen at Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples. Kohei Nawa has produced a series of sculptures of this taxidermied deer covered with glass spheres. The spheres act like lenses, magnifying the surface of the deer and reflecting the surrounding landscape in distorted form. These sculptures are like sacred deer that exist forever as images.
