Work Details
My practice examines the certainty of what we believe we “know,” drawing on information gathered through the senses—things we have seen or touched, as well as presences felt through the body.
The "Gap" series gives form to the portion of a window that remains uncovered when the curtains on either side are drawn back and secured, the space through which a view would ordinarily appear. When the curtains are opened, a 'shape for the view to occupy' emerges between them. Yet because our gaze passes through this space toward the scene beyond, the contour of the shape itself goes unnoticed. The series extracts this overlooked contour and makes it visible as an object in its own right.
I call this practice “STILLTHING”: giving form to overlooked states within everyday life and reconsidering them as things that simply continue to exist there.
I work from my studio in Higashimurayama, Tokyo. Depending on the work, I combine a range of techniques and processes, including metalworking, woodworking, fabric manipulation, and 3D printing, carrying out every stage myself.

Artist
Sculptor
Born in 1993. Completed an MFA in Sculpture at Musashino Art University in 2018. Combining ready-made components such as bolts and handles with materials including fabric, iron, and light, the artist creates works that move between sculpture and furniture. This practice reconsiders our relationship with familiar objects and spaces, testing the intensity of perception within everyday life. The artist calls this practice “STILLTHING” and is developing it as a new genre that extends beyond the frameworks of sculpture and furniture.
Selected solo exhibitions include “STILLTHING” at Esther Okada Art Gallery (2026) and “Yellow tower” at Shoonji Temple (2025). Selected group exhibitions include “Absurdists from the Ivory Tower” at BEAMS JAPAN and Isetan Shinjuku (2025). In 2023, the artist’s work was featured in the TBS television drama *18/40: Futari Nara Yume mo Koi mo*. In the same year, the artist was selected as a finalist for the sanwacompany Art Award / Art in the House 2023.
