Sculptor

Born in 1993. Completed an MFA in Sculpture at Musashino Art University in 2018. Combining ready-made components such as bolts and handles with materials including fabric, iron, and light, the artist creates works that move between sculpture and furniture. This practice reconsiders our relationship with familiar objects and spaces, testing the intensity of perception within everyday life. The artist calls this practice “STILLTHING” and is developing it as a new genre that extends beyond the frameworks of sculpture and furniture. Selected solo exhibitions include “STILLTHING” at Esther Okada Art Gallery (2026) and “Yellow tower” at Shoonji Temple (2025). Selected group exhibitions include “Absurdists from the Ivory Tower” at BEAMS JAPAN and Isetan Shinjuku (2025). In 2023, the artist’s work was featured in the TBS television drama *18/40: Futari Nara Yume mo Koi mo*. In the same year, the artist was selected as a finalist for the sanwacompany Art Award / Art in the House 2023. The texture of a sofa as I sink deeply into it; the sharply angled roofs of houses seen through a window; the joints of an overpass glimpsed from the roadside. These small, easily overlooked scenes from everyday life gradually accumulate in memory, eventually giving rise to a profound sense of reassurance. For me, the state of “knowing” something becomes a source of inner support—a foundation upon which a sense of peace can be built. Yet the memories and images that exist vaguely in our minds are merely the result of our own unconscious selection of information gathered through the body and its senses. My practice is an act of examining how much truth lies within the things I believe I “know” through sensory experience: things I have seen or touched, or presences I have felt against my skin. In search of the source of reassurance, I pick out elements that exist quietly within everyday life and trace my memories of what they once were. STILLTHING: an object whose state is defined by the very fact that it continues to exist there.
