Layers of Color 2102
Layers of Color series = non-figurative, spontaneous, phenomenal
The “Layers of Color” series, which began in 2015, is freed from the structure of figurative motifs and pursues paintings that are pure visual phenomena
This is the second piece in 2021 and the 50th in the entire series.
The basic method for this series is to determine a screen (including orientation) that seems to be complete by laminating and grinding acrylic paint from a place where there is no clear theme, message, motif, or plan. While taking advantage of the interesting details that occur by accident, it leads to a single image as a pure visual phenomenon on canvas.
I began production of this work based on my own Esquisse. Shortly before that, as an idea, I put together several images and drew a series of watercolor drawings, and one of them motivates me when creating this work.
The reason why it is positioned as “Motivechon” is that “it does not faithfully draw colors and shapes as is.”
Although the color and composition of Esquisse are used as a guide to some extent, they are disassembled and reconstructed as layers spanning 20 or more layers, then scraped back to find the screen with improvised judgment, so the finished screen is completely different.
It's not like a no-plan, it's how to use Esquisse as a detonator to launch production energy, and then build up impromptu decisions to complete it. This is an example of a work in this series that tested the method of performing at a relatively large size in S4 size.
The canvas is prepared with careful ground coating on both the front and back, and then placed on a temporary board. Apply 20 or more layers of paint on the screen side, including parts and solids. Then, the screen is built while grinding with water-resistant sandpaper while pouring water on it. It is made on a temporary board, and after completion, it is cleaned and dried, then placed on a wooden frame to complete. Since the screen has been scraped out, it is smooth, and can also be wiped clean with a dish towel or the like.
To make the most of “multi-layered magic,” one of the characteristics of painting.
From the time I set out to create, I found a method in line with my desires in 1999. Since then, we have been pursuing the possibilities of painting with a consistent technique called “laminating and grinding acrylic paint” with matières.

Painting as a phenomenon.
We are exploring the possibilities of painting using a method of generating a screen by laminating and grinding acrylic paint.
There are variations in screen styles, from those with objects to those without objects, and all works have common colors and mattieres.
